Success at Sovereign

The Callaghan Valley Training Centre Athletes started to find their groove in the second set of races this season at Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre in Vernon, BC on December 8 and 9, 2012.

The successful weekend included one silver and three bronze medals and plenty of top-10 finishes.  Most importantly, the athletes could feel a difference, an improvement, in their performances from Canmore and the Yukon training camps.

Fred's Race Tale - Canmore Sprints

By: Fred Weaver

The wait is finally over! Winter has come! Since our last update we have got several dumps of snow at our home base- Whistler Olympic Park. The snow flew a later for us than it flew for our friends in Canmore and Whitehorse, but on the bright side we’ll have the edge over them in rollerskiing for next year’s dryland season.

CVTC Welcomes New Sponsors to Growing Team

The Callaghan Valley Training Centre is pleased to announce new partners for the 2012-13 season.  The support of these organizations is invaluable to providing quality training equipment and supplies to the athletes striving for top international results.

Getting the Engines Running...

The first day of serious racing for 2012 is under way and the CVTC athletes are now well aware of where they stand and where they need to go.

As coach Chris Manhard noted, "We've had a slow start to the seaon with snow arriving in Whistler only last week.  This is obviously not ideal preparation but we do value the hard work that Whistler Olympic Park staff have put into making sure we can get what quality they can provide."

Off to the Races!

The CVTC team is headed to their first major races of the season in Canmore, AB.  They arrived in Canmore this evening and will be skiing at the Canmore Nordic Centre tomorrow, so keep your eyes out for them!  After Canmore, they head to Vernon for the next Canada Cup races: leaving Canmore on December 2 and staying in Silver Star until the 9th.  After that it's time to disperse for Christmas.  Some may participate in the Kootenay Cup races in Rossland or watch the World Cups in Canmore, while others head back to their families across the country.

Whitehorse Camp Part II

The second half of our camp in Whitehorse was just as amazing as the first, with a skate sprint race and  a classic time trial. The Yukon Elite Squad joined us for the sprint. After a qualifier and three heats, they showed us that they could capitalize on the home turf advantage by taking the top three spots. An awesome event run by Coach Chris, getting us all pumped for the season. We even made an appearance on CBC's Northbeat! The next day we ventured to the heart of the snow capped forest for our classic time trial.

Toasty Warm Hands

Thanks to Yoko, CVTC's hands are going to be toasty warm this winter!  Can't wait until that shipment comes in!

Yukon Snow

Yesterday our team enjoyed our first ski of the year on some awesome trails high above Whitehorse. We are in the Yukon for a week long training camp Thanks to the Yukon Elite Squad and the great pre-season conditions the territory has to offer. You may be wondering what those guys have been up to this summer and to tell the truth, we don't really know, but they are skiing really FAST.
