Western Canadian Wrap

The Callaghan Valley Training Centre men did not disappoint on the final day of the Western Canadian mini-tour.  The Juniors again dominated the podium with a gold and bronze medal and ended up with a silver and bronze in the overall mini-tour, bringing the weekend's medal count to 8 medals: 3 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze.

Sebastien Dandurand was the name of the day in the 30 km free technique (pursuit start), the final event in the 3-day Western Canadian Championships minitour.  A man who has been improving steadily all season, Dandurand won the Junior Men event and finished in 10th place on the day.  This was good enough to move him into third place in the 3-day minitour in the Junior Men Category and add to the medal haul for the team.

Colin Ferrie finished 3rd junior on the day (17th overall) and 2nd junior in the mini tour.  Stefan Sander-Green continued his strong showing in the junior contingent with a 5th place finish (27th overall) and 4th in the overall mini-tour.  Fred Weaver rounded out the CVTC contingent, finishing 8th Junior on the day and 8th in the mini-tour.  Paul Dupuis did not start the 30 km event.

In the senior category, Geoffrey Richards and Sebastien Townsend finished closely together with 20th and 19th place finishes, respectively.  This was good enough to place them 14th (Richards) and 18th (Townsend) in the overall mini-tour.  Yannick Lapierre did not finish the 30 km event and Martin Schrama did not start.

The Western Canadian trip to Grand Prairie was the most successful this year for the CVTC team and hopefully a sign of things to come.  The team will return home, heavily laden with medals, to train and prepare for the Ski Nationals event in Whistler from the 23 - 30 of March.
