The CVTC athletes dominated the Junior Men category in the first race of the Western Canadian Championships in Grand Prairie, Alberta. Success included a gold, bronze and all five athletes in the top-7 of the skate sprint event.
Sebastien Dandurand continued his upward trajectory with his first NorAm win. Colin Ferrie placed third and Paul Dupuis 4th in the 4-man final. With only 16 participants in the Junior Men category the organizer ran on 4 person (rather than the traditional 6 person) heats. The B-final offered a win (5h place) to Fred Weaver, by far his best result of the season, and a 7th place (3rd in the heat) to Stefan Sander-Green.
The senior men did not fare so well, but still put themselves in good position for the overall 3-day event. Geoffrey Richard placed 21st, Martin Schrama 22nd, Yannick Lapierre was 26th and Sebastien Townsend 32nd.
Tomorrow's event is a distance, individual start classic technique.
