Product Review: Whistler Olympic Park - A Winter Paradise

Whistler Olympic Park, home of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games as well as the Callaghan Valley Training Center has the best skiing in the area. With endless amounts of snow and trails for all abilities it’s a great stop for anyone looking to get out and enjoy the outdoors.

With an annual snowfall of up to 4 meters the conditions at Whistler Olympic Park are unbelievable and the snow is never ending. March is the time of the year with the biggest snowfalls. All the ski trails at WOP are groomed using a snow cat on a daily basis complete with a live grooming report. (http://skitrails.info/report/wop) Throughout the year Whistler Olympic Park hosts a number of races ranging from small local races all the way up to NorAm races and each year in February the well know Sigge’s  P’ayakentsut Loppet.  With reminders of the Olympics everywhere one can always feel in inspiration of what our mutual goals are, to be the best skier. Skiing under the Olympic rings every day is probably one of the most inspirational things that a young athlete can have, as well as watching the Olympic countdown clock.

With being the host to the 2010 Olympics, Whistler Olympic park has some of the best facilities in the world. Complete with ski jumps, biathlon range and our favourite, over 90km of some of the most beautiful trails, this includes 6km of lit trail and a dog friendly loop. Almost every trail has a fantastic view of one of the mountains in the area, on a nice day the views of Black Tusk are breathtaking.  Don’t have your own equipment to enjoy these trails? Simple, you can rent gear at the day lodge and even get a lesson on technique.  Or get out and enjoy the 20km of snowshoe trails!

Once finished your ski you can treat yourself to the Brandywine Restaurant located in the day lodge and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate or even a glass of wine. On a sunny day there is no better place to be then sitting on the deck of the day lodge up at Whistler Olympic Park.

This January we have been treated to some of the best weather we have ever seen at WOP it was impossible to not stop and take pictures so here are a few: http://cvtc.ca/whistler-olympic-park-0
