Race Report: Race of Attrition in Prince George

Many mass start races involve large bunches of skiers travelling together for mutal gain; such was not the case in Prince George on Sunday.  As the results show, the field got pretty strung out and many of the skiers were on a solo pain train for close to 20 km.  CVTC faired quite well on the day with three skiers in the top 6 and the top to spots on the Junior men podium.

On a mission of redemption, Sebastian Dandurand finished as the top CVTC athlete in 4th place.  Free technique races are his forte but he's not normally recognized as a long distance skier with his bulky sprinting muscles.  "I'm really happy with the race today.  I was feeling a bit down after the other two races here, so it's really great to finish on a high note," commented Dandurand.

Colin Foley captured 5th over all and was the first junior again.  Andrew Avis finished as 2nd junior (11th overall) and Sam Morris felt the effects of his springing heroics, finishing as 4th junior and 19th overall.  "My legs felt like lead after the past few days of racing," noted Morris.  "I'm really looking forward to the long drive back to Whistler and some quality recovery skiing at Whistler Olympic Park."

The CVTC athletes are now on cruise control, racing primarily in BC, until the National Championships in Newfoundland in mid-March.
