And That's a Wrap, Thunder Bay

Today was the final day of racing at the U23 and Junior World Championships trials in Thunder Bay, and it got off to an early start.  Toing the start line at 9:00 am, the CVTC Team had some excellent results in the free technique individual start event.

Sebastien Dandurand, coming from a Nordic Combined background, was in his glory and finished a strong 6th in the Junior event.  Colin Ferrie was close behind in 7th position after leading by 9 seconds over the first two of three laps.  Unfortunately, Ferrie suffered the feared "bonk" and ran out of gas before the finish line, dropping 7 spots.

In the senior event, Geoffrey Richards had good day and finished 12th (3rd U23).  This was Richards' best event of the series and left him 5th in the line-up for U23 World Championships.  The team will only travel with 4 athletes, so Geoffrey, at this point, is the first alternative athlete.  (Note: World Championship selections will be posted to www.cccski.com once they're official).

Today was the final event in the three-day series and the CVTC heads back to their Whistler stomping grounds tomorrow.  Watch for them at the BC Cup races in Kelowna next weekend (January 12 & 13).  A couple of the senior athletes may stay in Ontario to compete at the Canada Cup races in Duntroon.
